Originally from Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland), they now reside in Tkaron:to (Toronto), where their artistic voice resonates. Known for their compelling work in opera – from Purcell to Britten – Ryan embraces a wide range of expression. They are a sought-after soloist and chorister, as well as a co-founder of the groundbreaking OperaQ, dedicated to queer voices and stories. Alongside their musical endeavors, Ryan's artistic journey extends to arts administration, production, and research, delving into queer performance practices.

Ryan McDonald’s artistry extends far beyond their acclaimed solo performances. As a chorister, lending their voice to renowned ensembles like the Toronto Mendelssohn Singers, Elora Festival Singers and Trinity Choir. As a portfolio artist, Ryan embraces diverse roles as an Artistic Producer and Arts Administrator. They are passionate about leading workshops that explore identity through music. They co-founded OperaQ, a company championing queer voices in theatre and were recognized by the 2023 Opera America Digital Excellence in Opera Awards. Ryan's dedication to exploring the boundaries of performance is further reflected in their DMA studies at the University of Toronto, where they research Klaus Nomi and investigate evolving queer performance practices.
